What is VIMSU?
VIMSU (Virtual Interactive Meeting SimUlator) is a software that was developed in response to the corona pandemic and originally was intended to allow scientific conferences and similar events to be held virtually with telepresence. In cooperation with Lehr-Lern-Labor, VIMSU currently mainly is used for workshops that have the purpose to get school students closer to computer science related topics. This takes place in the form of an interactive virtual event area. The participants are represented by virtual avatars that can be controlled in real-time. This makes it possible to interact with other avatars and virtual objects.
Who is behind VIMSU?
We are 5 computer science students (Eric Ritte, Niklas Schmidt, Laura Traub, Klaudia Leo, Philipp Schumacher) that developed VIMSU within the context of our bachelor degree as part of the course “Software Engineering Practice” in summer semester 2020 at the Chair of Dependable Nano Computing (CDNC), Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT). Since february 2021, we have been working on an extension that makes it possible to use VIMSU in a workshop context.
